Artist's Description

There is a road in Camden Hills State Park, Maine that leads to the summit of Mount Battie. The road is locked at 8:30pm, but is available for hikers at any hour. I hiked up the road and was treated to the antics of fireflies. This image is a blend of 63 long-exposures taken over the course of several hours, capturing the apparent movement of the stars in the sky with the actual movement of the fireflies along the road.

About Hal Mitzenmacher

Hal Mitzenmacher

Welcome to an important and dear part of my life, a quest to capture the perfect night image! Photography has been an interest of mine for decades, starting with a basic Minolta SRT101 film camera that accompanied me into the back country of the Sierra Nevada. Switching gears, my interest turned to underwater film photography and videography using both housed and Nikonos style cameras. My first digital camera was a mere 1.2 megapixel Kodak point and shoot, yet the results from this camera, combined with the power of image processing software truly amazed me, and pointed toward a future that truly boggled the mind. Well, today IS that future, and what has evolved in the graphic arts world creates opportunities to express oneself...
